Do any of you use FaceBook, from www.facebook.com ? I just started using it, and like it a lot. I would give out my name, but I just changed it, so don't wanna give out the wrong one. Any thoughts about FaceBook? Also, how you think it compares to LiveJournal, MySpace, Xanga, Blogger, etc? I personally like LiveJournal the best of all the blogging services I've seen.

Hey Caitlin!! Interesting topic! I tried to sign up, but you have to enter a dang code! GRRR! I too love LiveJournal!! It's the best blogging sites out there! (it's more eccessible then myspace, if you ask me) even though just like the rest of the world, lol I do have a myspace account. (I love LiveJournal though!) and I'm sure whenever I get to signing up on facebook, I'll love that too!! Good topic! Your friend, Am

facebook is very addicting in spite of the fact that there are no blogs on it...i've been a member for about a year and a half now and i have wasted away many many hours on it...in fact, i'm gonna end this so i can go check my account right now.

p.s. i'm a xanga user and once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to use.

Yep, Xanga is pretty good, i used to use it too. And yes, Am, it does have a code, but if you get a sightie to help you, the rest is pretty easy. And MySpace sucks. Lol.

That's interesting. The verification thing must have been implimented within the past year, because I didn't need to do that crap when I signed up. Then again, I'll be signing up for a new account soon since I switched universities. I honestly don't much care though, since facebook seems to be a fad that has already sene better days.

The old FaceBook probably didn't have the Word Verification thing. Probably you signed up when it was facebook.net? And when it was exclusively for colleges? That's how it worked when I first ran across it abuot a year ago.

Oh and yes, thefacebook.com is apparently the same as facebook.com. That is to say, it goes to the same site.

No,it was facebook.com before word varification, too. And you shouldn't have to switch accounts. I think you just change your email to your new school email. There are instructions to do that on the FAQ, I think.

Yeah, to change your email, you go to My Account and then...uh...somewhere else that i don't remember. I think it's right on the front page or something like that. Ish.

I've really considered joining because it's more or less a high school and college staple, but most users of Facebook and myspace load their sights with pictures, and that just wouldn't work for me. In other words, I'd do it If I didn't feel so out of place for not having a wall of pictures. I mean, even some of the features are apparently named after/encourage putting up lots of pictures and photos of oneself. Afterall, it's called "Facebook," and myself and pictures don't go hand in hand. I'm sure my profile would look insanely out of place compared to my friends/peers. Otherwise, I'd probably join. I don't know, maybe I will sooner or later. If nothing else, it'll give me something to do.

Actually, Brice, FaceBook isn't really all about pictures. Photo albums aren't the most important thing whatsoever. Sure, they call it FaceBook, but that's mostly because you can have a picture of yourself to help people from college or high school remember you years later. The real objective is to get in touch with odl friends. Unlike MySpace, the pages can't be customized, and they are very easy to navigate. Plus, people can't clutter up their pages with photos and things like that. I hate MySpace, but I find FaceBook a lot of fun and very simple to work with. I don't think you shoudl feel out of place; like I said, having a icture isn't necessary, and I bet not everyone has one.
Cheers,
Caitlin

Hey! I second what Caitlin has said--although many of my friends do have multiple photo albums on facebook, the photo albums don't clutter up the page and unlike myspace, which I too think sucks, facebook is very accessible and easy to navigate. I've been a facebook user longer than I have been an lj user so I would say it's my favorite of the blog and social networking sites out there, but lj is cool too. And I think they put the image varification software in there recently because when I joined facebook two years ago, I didn't have to do that.

That's right. The photo albums are, like, at the bottom of the profile page, and it just says, "This user has X albums," and then it lists a couple links to the albums and it has a See All link. Very unobtrusive.

Okay, I've gone and done it. I made a Zone BBS group on FaceBook. So if any of you here who already have FaceBook want me to send you an invite, just write your name and school here, or Private Message me with it. Or else you can probably just search for it. it's a Global Group, meaning anyone at all can join.
Cheers,
Caitlin
